Wiring, faults and electrical work in homes and commercial premises.

Electrician working on a consumer unit

We work on electrical installations in homes, apartment blocks and commercial premises, from a single fault to a full rewire and new consumer unit. Before we touch anything, we tell you what we found, what needs doing and what it costs.

What we usually find

Most call-outs fall into three groups: something has stopped working, the RCD trips for no obvious reason, or the installation is simply no longer sized for how the property is used today. All three are fixable, but they are worth telling apart: replacing a light fitting is an hour's work; a 1970s installation feeding a modern kitchen is a different conversation.

How we work

We start by finding the fault, not by swapping parts. An intermittent problem can come from a bad connection behind a socket, and changing the RCD will not cure it. Once the cause is clear, we set out the options: the minimum repair that leaves the installation safe, and the work that stops it happening again. You decide which.

Working alongside a renovation

If you are renovating, the electrical layout has to be settled before the walls close. We chase the walls and run the conduit and back boxes where the outlets will actually be needed, so you do not end up with a socket behind the sofa and none by the worktop.

What this covers

  • Installation and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Fault finding and repair
  • Sockets, switches and lighting points
  • Consumer units and protective devices
  • Indoor and outdoor lighting
  • Bringing older installations up to standard
  • First-fix electrical work for renovations

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Preparing and sending you a quote is free and commits you to nothing.

Where a reliable figure requires seeing the installation in person, we tell you before we travel and confirm whether that visit is chargeable and how much. A charge you were not told about in advance will never appear.

What should I tell you to get an accurate quote?

The more specific you are, the smaller the margin of error. It helps a great deal to know:

  • Exactly what is happening, and since when
  • The type of property and roughly how old it is
  • The town or district
  • Photos of the affected point and, if possible, of the consumer unit or stopcock

With photos we can rule things out and give you a realistic range. Without them we can usually only give a broad bracket.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the urgency and on that week's workload. We would rather give you a date we can keep than one that sounds good.

When you write to us we sort the job into one of three: something that can wait and gets scheduled; something worth dealing with soon; and a situation with real risk, water escaping, a burning smell, a consumer unit tripping constantly. The last group goes first. Our reply gives you a specific date, not an "as soon as possible".

Outside normal hours we handle emergencies for a surcharge, which we tell you before we start.

What guarantee comes with the work?

Two separate things.

Materials and appliances carry the manufacturer's legal guarantee. In the EU that is a minimum of two years, extended to three in several member states for goods bought from 2022; many air conditioning units offer longer if registered after installation. We hand you the documentation so you can enforce it.

Our labour is covered separately. The exact period is stated in the quote you accept, so it is in writing rather than resting on what was said in conversation.

Specifically, our labour is covered by the legal warranty that applies to this kind of work: if something fails through a defect in our workmanship within that period, we come back and put it right at no cost.

Shall we put a quote together?

Tell us what you need and we will come back with a clear assessment. Free and with no obligation.
